| About our Council: Girl Scouts of River Bluffs Council is a not-for-profit organization serving over 8,600 girls throughout Calhoun, Jersey, Madison, Monroe, St. Clair and parts of Clinton, and Macoupin counties in Illinois. Our Vision: Girl Scouts of River Bluffs Council will be the forerunner in the development of self-esteem and leadership skills of girls, young women and adults. | Girl Scouting Is a Fun Learning Experience for All Girls! The Girl Scout program is commited to helping all girls from all backgrounds to learn to respect themselves and others, as well as to develop the confidence, determination, and skills needed to thrive in today's world. Girl Scouting promotes growth and cooperative learning, making decisions, and evaluating progress, helps girls better the quality of life for others, without regard for personal reward. Girls develop qualities of responsible citizenship and service that help lay a foundation for responsible action as women. Girls develops leadership and decision-making skills through specific activities, experiences with self-government, and the influence of adult role models. They build skills in a balanced program that includes activities in the worlds of science, math, and technology; out-of-doors, arts, people; and well-being, as well as contemporary issues to support and assist girls in confronting the pressures of today's world. Girl Scouting provides adult volunteer leadership that is trained and prepared to guide and encourage girls to discover their talents and abilities while reinforcing their strengths in a supportive and safe environment. Girl Scouting is flexible. Girls can participate in a variety of ways: troops, events, camps, and as individuals. The program also supports activities that encourage cross-cultural understanding. Girl Scouting is a member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. |
| Volunteer Opportunities Every year over 2,800 adult volunteers gear up to provide programs and events for River Bluffs Girl Scouts. From troop meetings and field trips and fund raising activities to outdoor programs, volunteers serve as the backbone and expertise for the River Bluffs Girl Scout Council. | Adult Training in the River Bluffs Girl Scout Council Girl Scouts of River Bluffs Council is fortunate to have some exceptional volunteers that are instrumental in providing training to all of our adult volunteers, they are the Council Trainers and Training Coordinators. Without them and their commitment to Girl Scouting, the Council would be unable to provide the number or variety of training courses that it does. Our training program is designed to help adult volunteers to broaden their understanding of the philosophy, aims, and program of the Girl Scout Movement, and to increase the knowledge and skills they need to do their jobs with competence and satisfaction. Two times a year, volunteers receive a training calendar listing upcoming opportunities and the particulars of registering for a training or workshop. Whether you choose to lead a troop or teach outdoor skills, we have opportunities for you to share with other Girl Scout volunteers and find more ways to make your job easier and fun! |
| Are you 18-29 years old? Not much time to share? No problem. Can't commit to a regular schedule? You don't have to! Participate once a month, on weekends, evenings, during a particular time of year—it's your call. Our girls need role models and positive mentors in their lives. You decide how you want to help. Who knows—you may get college credit or build some great skills for your resume! For more than 95 years, adults from around the globe have given back to the Girl Scouts of the USA by helping build our leaders of tomorrow. Our volunteers are inspiring, invaluable, and they have a profound effect on everyone they help. Quite simply, there would be no Girl Scouting without them! Whether you have a day, a weekend, a month or more, the time you devote to Girl Scouts will instill in girls leadership skills that will last a lifetime. We're looking for volunteers who represent the diversity of the world we live in—adults of all ages, all racial and ethnic backgrounds and of course our treasured alumnae—anyone who wants to make a difference in their community. Girl Scouts can help you to: Inspire and empower girls Match your interests with the interests of girls Acquire valuable job experience Participate in your community Network with professionals Try new things Develop your leadership skills And meet new people! Whether in technology or the arts, sports or medicine, business or government, Girl Scouts needs your help to provide opportunities for girls to learn. No matter what your experience, your age, or the amount of time you have to give, we can use you. And girls will grow strong because of your involvement. Work with Girls: Be a mentor by guiding girls to explore their interests and learn about possible careers. Work as a troop/group leader directly with girls, leading meetings and conducting activities. Teach a workshop and help girls a skill that you're passionate about. Reach out to the Community Design a council's or troop/group's Web site or offer to teach girls how to create their own. Provide administrative assistance and supervision in registering participants for events. Offer secretarial services and assist with ongoing record keeping and other paperwork. Develop Your Leadership Skills Become a board member and use your skills to define goals, plan, and manage change. Plan activities and structures to guide the work of your local council, coordinate training and fund raising, and serve as a liaison with community organizations.
